I have some (legally bought) DVD concerts. I want to copy the soundtrack only so that I can ultimately convert them to MP3 files, and playback it in a MP3 player (iPod kinda thing), or in a perfect world... I'd like to find a easy to use software to extract the soundtrack from DVD's and convert them to MP3 files. My first challange is how can I copy the music only off a DVD? What's the best software to do this on my Mac computer? And how exactly? Thanks.
As you might know, ripping the soundtrack from a CD is easy with iTunes or Windows Media Player. But ripping DVD soundtrack is totally a different thing. You need a DVD ripping software to extract the soundtracks then convert them to an audio format as you want, say MP3.
We strongly recommend a Mac DVD ripping software called 'iFunia DVD to iPod Converter for Mac'. This software is a free trial application for Mac OS X that accomplishes this task quickly and easily. It helps you rip/extract DVD content to any common video/audio formats for playback on media players and mobile devices.
Step 1: Download & install iFunia DVD to iPod Converter for Mac
We’ll be using a very nice DVD Ripping tool for Mac OS called ‘iFunia DVD to iPod Converter for Mac’ to extract the soundtrack of DVD concerts, head over here and download the free trial version. Next step is to install the program.
Step 2: Run iFunia DVD to iPod Converter for Mac
Now get your DVD concert disc and insert it. Then run iFunia DVD Ripper on your Mac and click the big button "Load..." to load your DVD concert, you may see the name of DVD concert disk if you insert DVD before running this DVD ripper tool. This may take up to a minute or two depending on the contents of the DVD and the speed of your optical drive.
Step 3: Select the titles you'd like to convert
A concert DVD usually has several titles. The shorter titles on the DVD are usually the video backgrounds used in the DVD menu screens and DVD extras like movie trailers. Unless you are a graphic artist, you probably don't want to convert these titles.
Step 4: Change the output settings to convert videos with best quality
There are almost all common video formats available for you to choose to convert to. You may convert DVD concert to different video formats for video editing or playback on your mobile devide, such as iPod, iPhone, PSP, cellphone, etc.
If you'd like to extract the soundtrack of DVD concert to MP3 files for playback on iPod, just set the output format as 'MP3-MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)' and the Bitrate your preferred. Remember that the output file size mostly depends on the Bitrate you set. Larger Bitrate, larger file size.
Step 5: Start converting DVD movies
Now you may click the big button "Start" to begin ripping DVD concert soundtrack to MP3 file for playback on your iPod.
Step 6: Transfer/Sync video to the iPod
To get the MP3 onto your iPod, launch iTunes 6 (or later). If you do not have it, download iTunes now. Drag your new extracted MP3 file into your iTunes library in the folder or playlist of your choosing.
Attach your iPod to your computer and sync the iPod with iTunes. If you're connecting your iPod for the first time, you'll need to name it, and choose how you'd like to manage your music and video. Check the option "Automatically sync songs and videos to my iPod" so your music and video from the iTunes library will automatically snyc to your iPod. The sync may take a few minutes. When syncing is done, eject your iPod and take your movies with you.
